이에요 / 예요 Sentence examples with grammar explanation
1. A: 어느 나라 사람이에요?
What country are you from?
= Where are you from?
= Which country are you from?
* "사람" has 받침(bat.chim)ㅁ, final consonant, so you should use 이에요 here.

As reply sentence, you can use as below 3 types of polite / formal sentences.
B: 뉴질랜드 사람이에요.
= 저 뉴질랜드 사람이에요.
= 저는 뉴질랜드 사람이에요.
I’m New Zealander.
2. A: 리사는 어느 나라 사람이에요?
Where is Lisa from?
B: 태국 사람이에요.
She is Thai.

In Korean "I" has different levels of speech
Depends on who you talk, you can choose different words to show respect.
저 : I (polite)
저는 : I (polite)
나 : I (casual)
나는 : I (casual)
*Do not use "나" to people you don't know well, old people or people who has higher position. It can be rude.
Common mistake
나는 학생이에요. (X)
저는 학생이에요. (O)
I am a student.
* "나는" is casual form, you cannot use "나는" with "이에요'.
If want to use "나는", you can say "나는 학생이야."
은/는 : topic marking particles
* The main role of topic marking particles is letting other people know what you are talking
about or going to talk about, topic marking particles are attached after nouns.
When a oun ends with 받침(bat.chim),final consonants we use "은".
When a noun doesn't have 받침(bat.chim),final consonants we use "는".
Sentence examples
이 책은 10,000원입니다.
This book is 10,000won.
(책 has 받침(bat.chim) "ㄱ", final consonant, so you should use "은" here.
저는 25살이에요.
I am 25 years old.
(저 doesn't have 받침(batchim), final consonant, so you should use "는" here.
